Barristers

Speak for your clients

In my opinion, barristers are the voice coaching students I have who benefit most from vocal tuition. This is because they speak for their clients in court, and thus must represent them using the most effective voice possible.

Why barristers use voice coaching

The most common reason barristers come to me for help is that their voice is too quiet to carry around a courtroom, or too weak to sound authoritative. After a few voice coaching lessons they usually sound more commanding and feel confident in their ability to project their voice around a courtroom.

Tuition

I offer voice training in both private tuition and weekend group workshops for barristers, and also lectures and voice-coaching lessons for those undertaking a Bar Professional Training Course.

Many aspects of the work of a barrister can benefit from vocal tuition, as the job is so varied. Some of the benefits are quite subtle – such as commanding more respect from your work colleagues. Others are very pronounced such as being able to talk louder in court.

Sore throat

Correct vocal technique will keep your voice healthy. Losing your voice would make it extremely difficult to speak for your client if called to do so. By ‘un-learning’ bad habits you can speak in a comfortable, natural way which will protect your voice and allow you to speak loudly for extended periods of time without getting a sore throat.
