Presenters
I am often approached by people who work on radio and TV. Although they all work in different fields; presenting, broadcasting, reading news, doing pre-recorded voice-overs or links they all seem to have the same problem – vocal fatigue.
If they spend more than a few hours in the studio they get a sore throat. Some have ignored the warning signs from their body until it has got to the stage where they have lost their voice completely – a disaster for anybody who needs to rely on their voice for their career. Most of the presenters I have worked with have been amazed to learn where they are going wrong, and what they need to do to correct their technique. It isn’t ‘normal’ to get a sore throat after speaking for a long time – pain and fatigue are a sign that your technique needs to be improved.
A happy side effect of my work with presenters is that along with reducing their fatigue/loss of voice they sound better. Their voices are richer, more commanding and nicer to listen to, a real bonus, especially on the radio!
